The holiday season (and all its busyness) has arrived. While this is a joyous time, it can also be stressful. Racing against the clock to finish all of your holiday-related tasks can take its toll on your mind and body. If your to-do list feels like its a mile long and you’re not sure how you’re going to accomplish it all, look no further. Here are some tips to help you get organized and avoid holiday burnout.
Write it All Down.
First things first, turn your swirling thoughts into actionable items. Grab your sustainable notebook or open a to-do list app and write out everything you think you need to do. The more detailed you can be, the better. Once you’ve gotten it all down, determine which items are need-to-dos and which items are want-to-dos. If you have a lot of need-to-do items, consider cutting out some of the want-to-dos.
Prioritize and Pencil in Tasks.
Though you may want to plan a last minute mountain getaway, knit stockings for the office and handwrite hundreds of holiday cards, odds are there won’t be enough time to do it all. While you may have to cut down your list to make it more manageable, make sure to keep a few want-to-dos on your list to liven up your normal holiday prep. Once you’ve finalized your list, prioritize items and pencil them into your calendar so you stay on track.
Shop Early and Wrap Often.
While each person will prioritize their holiday to-do list a little bit differently, everyone can benefit from shopping early for gifts. With less crowds and more selection, you’re likely to have quicker and easier shopping trips. Consider shopping online. If you’re making homemade gifts, pick up the supplies you need for your one-of-a kind creations before they become difficult to find. To avoid a Christmas Eve wrapping marathon, wrap gifts as you purchase or make them. Plus, you’ll get to enjoy the view of your tree framed with beautiful presents sooner!
Tidy Up for Company.
If you’re hosting a holiday gathering, you may feel like you need to do a deep clean. However, a speed clean with our kid & pet safe cleaners can often do the trick and free up your time for other holiday-related to-dos.
For bathrooms: Wipe down counters and mirrors to remove residue and smudges. Quickly clean and freshen up toilets with ECOS® Toilet Cleaner. Its cedar scent is sure to remind your guests of a winter forest. Set some holiday towels near the sink, refill the hand soap dispenser and make sure the toilet paper is stocked.
For the living room: Using a large bag, collect any clutter that is lying around. After tidying up, return these items to their proper homes or store the bag in another room to sort after the gathering. If you have carpet, grab your vacuum cleaner and do a once over. For a fabric couch, use a lint roller or a smaller vacuum attachment to remove dust, pet hair and food crumbs. For a leather couch, use a damp cloth to remove unwanted particles.
For the kitchen: If you’re cooking a meal for your guests, a little mess won’t matter. Before you cook, use ECOS® Stainless Steel Cleaner + Polish so your appliances sparkle. As you cook, wipe down counters and hand wash prep dishes with ECOS® Dishmate® to keep dishes from piling up in the sink.
We wish you a happy (and stress-free) holiday season!
