Phosphate Free

Why Should Cleaning Products be Free from Phosphates?

In the past year, there has been flurry of activity throughout the United States for replacement of Phosphates in cleaning products. Six states (Illinois, Virginia, Maryland, Minnesota, Vermont, and Washington) have already passed legislation banning such products that will go into effect in July 2010. Other states (Massachusetts and Michigan) have brought forward similar proposals. Canada is on the same path, as Manitoba has passed the same ban to go in effect in 2010.

As recent articles have shown, continuing to use detergents with Phosphates for just six months would add up to 15,000 pounds of Phosphates in the Chesapeake Bay alone, an area that has already seen devastating effects that Phosphates have had on its waters (see attached article from the Washington Post).

In the state of Washington, three counties have already eliminated detergents containing Phosphates and replaced them with WAVE®. WAVE® is the only neutral, Phosphate-free detergent with a pH 7. And even better, third party testing has shown that it works just as well as any detergent, including the leading auto dishwashing detergent containing Phosphates.

Earth Friendly Products are 100% natural and free from Phosphates. We hope that our competition will follow our leadership, and the public will soon get only detergents that are free from Phosphates.
